The author developed this four-part study guide series to help students better understand and apply the sizing and design concepts set out in the Australian Standards that are used across the plumbing industry. Previously, students may have felt overwhelmed by the volume of information in industry publications, or by the lack enough detail in explanations they need to build the confidence that Certificate IV will be a successful pathway.
Make these your classroom and learning companions.
Each of study guides is a PHYSICAL learning support that provides the reader with the advantages of:
Explanations.Straightforward descriptions that outline how the relevant Australian Standards clauses apply in practice. This helps students understand the complex language of legislated standards without needing to develop additional interpretive skills.
Deconstructed.Where equations are used, the guides break down the methods for solving them. In many cases, colour is used to identify equation components, such as Ci, Ai, Ah and Av, and the related numerical values, such as 1, 2 and 3. These supports help students apply the process with confidence and remove much of the uncertainty they may have experienced previously.
Descriptive illustrations. CAD-generated illustrations appear throughout the publications. They clarify key concepts and principles, and show the design components represented in equations, giving students more avenues to strengthen their understanding.
Worked examples. Readers are guided through sizing and design tasks step by step, with clear progress towards a completed outcome.
Revision. Reader feedback highlighted the value of revision tasks and questionnaires. These practical activities help students identify and highlight important content for future reference.
REFERENCES / NOTES. In each of the Study Guides, readers are able to record their own observations and references. This simple activity by the reader supports cognitive performance to retain learning material.
